Food is not just fuel; it’s the foundation of life.

The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.

Caritas Vanni, through its initiative HUDEC (Human Development Centre), plays a significant role in addressing food security challenges in Sri Lanka's Northern region, particularly in Kilinochchi, Jaffna, and Mullaitivu. The organization focuses on improving livelihoods by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, such as home gardening, poultry farming, and the planting of long-term trees, which directly contribute to food security. These efforts aim to reduce dependency on external food sources and help communities become more resilient to both economic and environmental shocks

In addition to fostering agricultural initiatives, Caritas Vanni works on community empowerment and educational programs to ensure that food security is not only about availability but also accessibility and nutrition. By integrating sustainable farming techniques with training and resources, the project helps local farmers increase food production and diversify their crops, ultimately ensuring that families can meet their dietary needs consistently. This comprehensive approach aligns with their mission of supporting marginalized communities and building long-term, sustainable solutions

"We must not allow hunger and malnutrition to persist, as they are not just barriers to individual well-being but threats to global stability and development. Food security and proper nutrition are the foundation of sustainable development, playing a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty, improving health, and empowering communities."
